•Raised as a fundamental Baptist, and planning a career as a missionary, Norma Jean was enrolled in Philadelphia College of the Bible at 18, but instead left New York for California for a vacation in 1970, and decided to remain.

•She got involved in a fundamentalist religious cult and met and married her first husband, Mr. Radames Almodovar (a Puerto Rican born in New York City) in November 1970. The marriage ended three years later, with no children.

Above: Norma Jean's ex-friend Penny Isgro, who had a fantasy to be a call girl. She was 50 years old, weighed 250 lbs and was 6'2" tall!

•She joined the Los Angeles Police Department as a civilian traffic officer in 1972. Assigned to Hollywood Division for most of her career, she had three traffic accidents while on duty.

•In her second on duty accident, she was attacked by a Hollywood businessman. The third and final accident occurred on April 18, 1982, at 11:10P.M. She was rear-ended by a drunk illegal alien in a stolen car, who fled the scene but was later apprehended and released after booking. That was the last day she ever worked for the Los Angeles Police. Already very disillusioned and angry with her co-workers for their corrupt activities (burglary and drug ring, murder-for-hire ring, sex with 10 year old girls) she went home that night, tore up her uniform and cut up her shoes and vowed never to return.

•When the disability benefits were cut off, she decided to take up a new career. She chose to become a high-priced Beverly Hills Call Girl. She also had a doll business, which was supplemented by her income as a call girl. In addition, she continued writing a book about her experiences on the L.A.P.D that now included her experiences as a prostitute. She titled her book "Cop to Call Girl".

•On September 17th, 1983, her unfinished manuscript was confiscated by the police and she was arrested an a charge of pandering. The charge stemmed from her attempt to fulfill the alleged sex fantasy of a former friend who was still a traffic officer. The "friend" Penny Isgro, was wired, and later admitted during the trial that she had done this to try to prevent Norma Jean from writing an expose of the Los Angeles Police. Through the perhaps deliberate incompetence of her then attorney (whom she later successfully sued) she was given no defense at all during her trial, and as a result, was convicted of the one count of pandering.

( In California, pandering is defined as encouraging a person to commit an act of prostitution. It carries a mandatory sentence of three to six years on the first offense with no prior convictions. If a person commits rape, robbery, assault, mayhem or murder and they don't use a gun, they can get probation! The police often use this law as an extortion tool, to force the prostitute to become an informant, or sometimes to get sex and money from the prostitute. )

•She met her present husband in 1975. He is an actor, writer and an architect. His stage name is Victor Savant.... meaning "victory in knowledge." They dated each other many years before she took the plunge and became an honest whore. He was aware of her decision and did not object, although he was never her "pimp." They were married on November 19, 1984, just a little over a day before she went to prison (50 days in solitary and isolation) for a psychiatric evaluation after her conviction.

•When she was released on January 9th, 1985, the judge felt the mandatory three to six year sentence was "cruel and unusual punishment" as applied to Norma Jean who had no prior criminal record, and instead, sentenced her to three years probation.

•On December 6th, 1985, the Los Angeles District Attorney, Ira Reiner, appealed her probation sentence, on the grounds that the law mandates a three year minimum prison term on the first offense with no prior convictions. He also stated that her crime was "worse than rape or robbery" or a violent assault on someone, and further, that she compounded her "crime" by writing a book which would "cause disrespect for law and order."

•Since her conviction in 1984, Norma Jean has been active in several prostitutes' rights groups, and has appeared in over 500 radio, television and print media interviews all over the world, and has lectured at colleges and universities all across the country.

•In 1986, she received the endorsement of the Libertarian Party of California for her bidat elective office. She did not win but made an impressive showing with over 100,000 votes

cast for an admitted felon hooker. (Norma Jean was introduced to the libertarian philosophy by her husband through the writings of Ayn Rand. She first registered to vote in 1978 as a Libertarian. She was not active in the Party until her campaign in 1986).

•Following the election, on December 15th, 1986, the California Appellate Court heard oral arguments on the appeal. On March 25th, 1987, with a 2 to 1 majority, the court overturned her probation sentence and ordered her to be returned to court for re-sentencing to the mandatory three to six year prison term. Her attorney appealed the decision, but was unsuccessful. On July 31, 1987, after serving 2 years, 7 months on probation with no violations, she was resentenced to three years in state prison.

•In California, all prisoners are given day for day credit incentive for working at an assigned job, and she was given credit for the time she spent in solitary in 1984-85. Norma Jean served over 17 months as an inmate of the California Institute for Women and then at the California Rehab. Center. Her case was the subject of a "60 Minutes" investigation and she was interviewed by Ed Bradley while she was incarcerated. The investigation concluded that she was in prison for no other reason than that she was writing a book about police corruption which the Los Angeles Police did not want published. She was released on three years parole December 14th, 1988, and finally, released from parole on January 26, 1990.

•Norma Jean was nominated to appear in "Who's Who in American Women" and "Who's Who in Business and Professional Women." In 1987, she was given an award by "Outstanding Young Women in America" in recognition of her political activities on behalf of women.

•In 1993, her book, "Cop to Call Girl" was published by Simon and Schuster, and in September 1994, Avon published the paperback version.

•For over 14 years, Norma Jean has been the executive director of C.O.Y.O.T.E. LA and Southern California- a prostitute's rights organization. In 1995, she was an official NGO delegate to the UN Fourth World Women's Conference in Beijing, China. She co-chaired and organized the March, 1997 International Conference on Prostitution (ICOP), with California State University, Northridge. (See "Whore" poem)

•In August, 1997, she founded an international, non profit organization, The International Sex Worker Foundation for Art, Culture and Education, or ISWFACE (pronounced 'iceface'). Among the new Foundation's goals are to share the many artistic sides of sex workers from around the world, past and present, and to create an international database of information about prostitution for health service providers, law enforcement agencies, communities and of course, sex workers, to deal with the serious issues that are involved.

•She is also writing four new books- the first, "Prose and Cons- Postcards from Prison"- chronicles her eighteen month incarceration experience. (See Postcard From Prison Cartoons)The second, "Police, Prostitution and Politics- 20th Century $ex $candals in America"- is a look at the inevitable scandalous consequences of enforcing victimless crime laws against consenting adults. The third book, which she is also planning to market as a series of adult education videos and interactive CDs, is, "The Call Girl Guide for Husbands, Wives and Lovers." Based on the sexual fantasies of her clients and her Learning Annex seminars, the book gives practical advice to wives and lovers. The fourth is a murder mystery, entitled "Hollywood NHI." "NHI" is an unofficial police term for murders of prostitutes, transients and homeless people, meaning, "no humans involved.

*Norma Jean also lectures at local universities and colleges, writes screenplays, designs jewelry and sculpts. Her most recent completed art project, based on a world famous criminal trial in Los Angeles, is an oversized chess set of the OJ Simpson trial characters. She is currently creating a series of sculptures entitled, "Commercial Sex- The Way We Work." The series consists of many Barbie-doll sized figures in various surroundings, which look at the many facets of sex work around the world. The series features a number of celebrity sex workers and their clients- Nina Hartley, Annie Sprinkle, Scarlot Harlot, Xaviera Hollander, Sydney Biddle Barrows, Heidi Fleiss, Divine Brown, Jimmy "I have sinned against you "Swaggart, Hugh "what was I thinking" Grant, Eddie Murphy and the transgender prostitute as well as other not so well known sex workers and clients.

*She is still happily married to Victor, her lover and companion for 22 years. They live in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles, California, and have no children.
