Sean Morley - Libertarian

Find out YOUR political position ->

World Wrestling Entertainment superstar Sean Morley -- who usually wrestles as the bad-guy character Val Venis -- is famous to millions of wrestling fans around the world. And he's a libertarian.

Morley, who lives in Canada, body-slammed the government in an interview in Kingston, Ontario's The Queen's Journal newspaper (January 16, 2001).

• On government health care: "I'm actually against the public health care system here in Canada. it's a socialist health care system and socialism has never worked on any part of this planet -- and it's never going to work."

• On the income tax: "I think that's wrong. I think the income tax should be abolished. The income tax is a slavery tax, it really is. I'd love to tear down the Canada Customs Revenue building and sell the pieces like we sold off pieces of the Berlin Wall (laughs). They make criminals out of people who don't want to give up part of their property, you know what I mean?"

• On guns: "I think everyone should have the right to bear arms. Absolutely."

• On victimless crimes: "The only thing that should make somebody a criminal in [a] free country is if one violates the right of other individuals to life, liberty, or property."

Morley is also a big fan of the Advocates, saying of The Liberator Online: "I LOVE IT!!! Keep up the good work."

Quotable

"Wrestling that [liberal] chokehold off of my bleeding heart was hard. Becoming a libertarian was a long, rough, bumpy, sometimes confusing road. But I made it! I am now home. I am a libertarian." -- Sean Morley in LP News (September 2001)
