New Celebrity/VIP Libertarians
The list of prominent celebrities, VIPs, and other public figures who've
declared themselves libertarians continues to mushroom. On the Friday April
24 "Tom Snyder Show," top comedian and film star Denis Leary told Snyder he
was a libertarian. Leary has appeared in nearly two dozen movies (among them
"Wag the Dog," "Suicide Kings," "Two If By Sea," "Neon Bible" and "The
Ref"), an acclaimed HBO one-man show, leading clubs and venues in America,
and spots on MTV and elsewhere.
And on the "Geraldo Rivera Show," Wednesday April 22, Jay Severin, an MS/NBC
political
analyst, declared he was a libertarian, during a discussion of White House
scandals.
And Richard Tafel -- head of the Log Cabin Republicans, a prominent gay
activists' organization within the GOP -- recently stated his strong
libertarian leanings. TWN, a Florida gay and lesbian publication, quoted
Tafel as saying, "Though I am fiscally conservative, I would say that,
philosophically, I am closer to libertarian... in the GOP there has always
been tension between its libertarian wing and its socially conservative view."
