Art Bell, Libertarian
The ranks of libertarian celebrities continues to swell. Art Bell -- one of
the four most popular radio talk show hosts in America -- has joined the
Libertarian Party.
Bell -- whose late-night radio show reaches
a whopping 389 stations and 9 million weekly
listeners coast-to-coast -- joined the party during his show on Tuesday, May 5.
"I am proud and happy to have found a [political] home," said
Bell, who was joined on the show by 1996 Libertarian Party presidential
candidate Harry Browne.
Bell said he made the decision to join the party because he was
concerned about the erosion of freedom in America.
"We're clearly heading toward a more totalitarian state," he
said. "I completely distrust the government -- and everybody should.
They've told lie after lie... Today, the first assumption is that what the
government is
telling you is a lie.
"The Libertarian Party is the closest ideologically to what I
now believe. I really believe in freedom."
Bell, 52, has been called
"the hottest talk show host in America today" by Talkers magazine.
He ranks behind only talk-show titans Dr. Laura Schlessinger,
Howard Stern, and Rush Limbaugh in total weekly listening audience.
