Victory: Internet Censorship Bill Grounded
Good news: on Monday February 1, U.S. District Judge Lowell Reed issued a
preliminary injunction to continue blocking enforcement of the Clinton
Administration's so-called "Child Online Protection Act." As reported last
issue, this bill would have been a major infringement on online freedom of
speech.
Judge Reed's response to claims the bill would protect children has the
makings of a classic:
"Perhaps we do the minors of this country harm if First Amendment
protections, which they will with age inherit fully, are chipped away in the
name of their protection."
