Celebrity Libertarian: Melanie
Melanie, the world-renowned pop/folk singer-songwriter, has declared that
she's a libertarian and a Libertarian Party supporter. And she's done it in
a very public way: in the liner notes to her new greatest-hits CD, "Ring
the Living Bell: A Collection."
She writes:
"I'm a total Libertarian, and I am not a Democrat, a Socialist, or a
Republican… Vote Libertarian, [and] don't worry about wasting your vote…."
She also had this to say about government: "Totally leave us alone and
we'll be better off."
Melanie first came to public prominence when she appeared at the original
Woodstock in 1969. Among her biggest hits: "Brand New Key," "Lay Down
(Candles in the Rain)," and "The Nickel Song." The Emmy-winning
singer/songwriter has released 25 albums. "Brand New Key," a huge hit in
the early '70's, was featured on the soundtrack of the 1998 hit film
"Boogie Nights."
