Poll: Americans Want Social Security Privatization

A new poll by respected pollsters Zogby International shows amazingly strong support for Social Security privatization among Americans of virtually all ages, races, and backgrounds. The survey of 1028 Americans, conducted March 8-9, asked this question: "How likely would you be to support Social Security privatization if it allowed you to take your Social Security money and invest it in a retirement account of your choosing?"

Here are some of the results:

                        Total Likely Total Unlikely
All Respondents 68.7% 30.3%
By Race:

Asian 90.9% 9.1%
Other 85.4% 4.6%
By Ideology:

Moderate 67.4% 32 %

Female 66.8% 31.7%

Similarly high support for the idea was found across the board in such categories as region, political party, age group (ages 18-29 favored it 95.9%!) and education level. The only group that opposed the idea were persons 65 years of age or older - and even then, around 45% supported it.
