NEWS: The Quiz Reaches a Milestone...

Number of Quiz-takers hits 3,000,000

[JULY 8, 2004] The world's most popular online political quiz has gotten more popular.

Today, the number of people who have taken the online World's Smallest Political Quiz passed 3,000,000, according to Sharon Harris, president of the Advocates for Self-Government.

"This milestone means that 3,000,000 people will never look at politics in quite the same way again," she said. "It also reinforces the Quiz's reputation as the most irresistible, ubiquitous, and well-respected political quiz on the Web."

For perspective, the 3,000,000 number is larger than the population of 21 states and greater than the population of all but two cities in the USA.

The World's Smallest Political Quiz is widely considered to be the original Internet political quiz. It first appeared on the Web in the summer of 1995.

The Quiz has also been hailed as the most accurate and unbiased online political quiz. In 2001, the Washington Post reported, "The Quiz has gained respect as a valid measure of a person's political leanings." The Suite101.com Web site called it "the most concise and accurate political quiz out there."

More than 13,400 Web sites link to the World's Smallest Political Quiz, and more than 4,000 people take the online version of the Quiz every day. (Over 7,000,000 copies of the printed version of the Quiz have also been distributed.)

The Quiz has been incorporated in the curriculum of college and high school political science classes around the country, and it has appeared in numerous magazines, books, and newspapers. In 2000, one of the nation's leading polling firms, Rasmussen Research, used the Quiz to conduct a scientific survey of American voters.

The World's Smallest Political Quiz was the first political quiz to go beyond the traditional Left-Right model of politics. Participants answer 10 short questions about personal and economic issues, and the interactive Quiz instantly pinpoints their political position on a five-way chart that includes Conservative, Liberal, Centrist, Libertarian, and Statist.

"The Quiz offers a broader, more diverse way of looking at politics," Harris said. "It also gives people a fast, accurate way of determining who politically agrees with them most. For 3,000,000 people, the Quiz has been an educational, eye-opening, and enjoyable experience."

While not a representative sample of the American public, of the 3,000,000 online Quiz takers, 30.1% scored Centrist, 34.9% Libertarian, 19% Liberal, 7.4% Conservative, and 8.6% Statist.

The online Quiz's popularity has grown steadily: It took four and a half years for 1,000,000 people to take the Quiz; almost three years to hit 2,000,000; and just over 10 months to pass 3,000,000.

The World's Smallest Political Quiz was created by the Advocates for Self-Government, a nonprofit, nonpartisan libertarian educational organization. Take it online and find out where you fit on the new political map.
