What We Agree On...

Now that you've taken the World's Smallest Political Quiz, we'd like to ask you to help support our work. And you'll probably ask, "Why should I?"

Fair enough. After all, the Advocates for Self-Government is a libertarian organization -- and you scored "Centrist" on the Quiz. Why should you help out an organization that doesn't agree with you politically?

Here's why: Because there are many things we do agree on.

First, we agree America needs a new political map to replace the old-fashioned, inaccurate Left-Right model. That's why we created the World's Smallest Political Quiz. It's an honest attempt to build a more accurate, more inclusive map the reflects the real diversity of politics. We think we've succeeded. That's why almost 200 colleges and high schools use the Quiz in their political science classrooms. That's why Washington, DC political consultant Stephanie Vance said, "With just a few questions, the quiz can pretty accurately assess where you fall on the political spectrum."

Second, we agree Americans should get more involved in the political process. We think the World's Smallest Political Quiz helps accomplish that goal. After all, people who understand their political beliefs are more likely to work for those beliefs. Now, if you're a little cynical, you may be saying: "Wait a second! A majority of people who take the Quiz don't score Libertarian. Are you telling me you even encourage non-libertarians to get politically involved?" Absolutely. We think America is stronger when people work to achieve their freedom-loving goals, whether they come from the Left, the Right, or the Center.

Of course, since we're a libertarian organization, we do specifically encourage libertarians to get active in politics. And, interestingly, that might even help you achieve some of your political goals. After all, libertarians encourage centrist politicians to avoid the knee-jerk Left-Right partisanship that has soured political debate in this country. Libertarians and centrists are allies on many issues.

Finally, we agree that people ought to be aware of all their political options. Informed voters are smarter voters. There are already many organizations and websites that furnish information about Liberal, Conservative, and Centrist causes. Since we're libertarians, we make sure information is available about libertarianism. No, this information won't magically convince people to embrace libertarian views or support libertarian-leaning candidates. It just lets people know about all their options on the political spectrum.

One final note: while the Advocates is libertarian, we're also nonpartisan. We're not affiliated with any political party. We don't tell people who to vote for. Our only agenda is liberty, no matter what political label is attached to it. However, we do believe that when people have more political information, they are more likely to vote -- and more likely to cast a knowledgeable vote in line with their core beliefs. And we think that's a good thing.

We have to give you credit: Not many centrists would have read this far. Many only support centrist organizations, and would never make a donation, no matter how modest, or any organization that doesn't 100% support their political agenda. We appreciate that you're different. We really do.
