I wish my small budget allowed me to give more. You certainly deserve the help. Good luck! -- L. A. P., III, Northport, NY

Thank you for your forthright explanation of this issue and unmitigated acceptance of responsibility. I just sent $50; it is what I can afford at the moment. For most of my adult life, I've generally avoided getting too involved in politics. In fact, this is the only time I have made a politically-related contribution. I suppose the main reason I had avoided politics for so long is that I simply couldn't stomach either of the two alternatives presented. I've never felt even a remote kinship with politicians from either liberal or conservative camps on more than a few disparate issues. Then, a couple of years ago I stumbled across The Quiz. While not quite a Hallelujah Chorus moment, it was certainly enlightening to realize that not only was I not alone in my views, but that I was in good company in this thing called Libertarianism. While still something of a Libertarian neophyte, it is good to have a greater framework within which to gauge my beliefs and resources to further explore and share them with others. But more important than any political perspective or viewpoint are honesty and integrity, both of which you've shown in your addressing of this issue. I have worlds more respect for any liberal or conservative that acts with integrity than for a disingenuous person of any persuasion. That is why I contributed today. having resources like The Advocates available just a few clicks away is reassuring. Thanks for your hard work and dedication to this cause. -- J. D. F.

I hope that all works out well for the organization, because things have got to change in our world before life begins imitating art, i.e., see "V For Vendetta". -- N. N. N.

I'm out of the country just now (Siberia!) and can't send money until I return. I can't send much, but I will try to send something. I wish you the best in your fundraising. You are really doing great things. – K. S.

I wanted to respond personally to your plea for funds. As a former Pennsylvania farm boy making his living as an actor in Los Angeles, money is tight to say the least. I applaud your honesty, sincerity, and humility in this matter. It is that candor that makes me compelled to assist the cause. Keep it going. Whatever it takes, keep this voice available to the world. The voice you provide is vital to the furthering of the cause for true democracy in this misrepresented nation we have been forced to accept. From one Grassroots Libertarian to another I say, don't be discouraged. Hang in there. -- M.

So sorry to hear about the financial troubles. I'm going to make my contribution now; if I didn't have a BIG wedding to pay for in June, I know I'd do more. Best of luck – L. S.

I sent you $25. That's what I could afford. I have always read the emails and appreciated the effort. Here's a little give back. Good luck -- F. R.

I wish I could give you more money, but I'm out of regular work, trying to get my business started. But I will give you $10. It's the best I can do, and I apologize for not doing better. I love your organization. I love what it stands for, I love the columns I read in your e-newsletter (esp. "Good News, Bad News and Unbelievable News"). I'll do what I can to keep you guys around! -- D. B.

Dear Sharon, Thank you for sending your message requesting assistance to save the Advocates. Yes, Sharon: you may be responsible for this - but what does that mean? It means that you made a bet that Libertarians all over the country were sufficiently devoted and committed to the cause of Liberty that at least 350 of us would show up. Well, for whatever reason, we could not or we did not. I have sent a message asking for at least 9 other Libertarians in Alabama to contribute $100 each. I will send a copy of that message to the fifty state chairs asking them to do the same. If we can get $1,000 in total contributions from Libertarians in each of the fifty states - you should be out of this crisis by this time next week. IN LIBERTY! -- J. H. , Birmingham, AL

To help pay off the debt. Good luck!! – J. F., Kenosha, WI

For the current hotel bill crisis. No special gift is expected, use it entirely to pay off the debt. And good luck with it! -- I. V., Budapest, Hungary [$100]

I was saddened to hear about the financial problems with The Advocates. However, please don't blame yourself. You had every reason to believe it would be a success. – M. R.

First time donator, long time lover of freedom. I really hope my small donation could help. It saddens me to see the state our fine country is in. Good luck with the cause. Lover of Liberty, C. C., Washington, DC

I was considering making the $250 donation to receive the CDs of the anniversary conference. Knowing that the Advocates lost money on it gives me the impetus. Thanks for the work you do to advance liberty. -- Yours in Freedom, J. R.

Donation sent. I hope to hear everybody else chipped in enough to put you back in the black. You guys occupy a very important niche in the libertarian ecology. If you didn't exist it would be necessary (and difficult) to invent you. -- D. R., Pittsburgh, PA

Sometimes the perfect whatever just isn’t as perfect as thought. I am very sorry the conference was one of these events. I continue with my monthly pledge, but just sent you $100 extra. The Advocates will survive and be stronger than ever. I’m just sorry that there is this extra struggle to detract you from the real goal. -- For Liberty, D. H., Acampo, CA

Figure I've gotten enough newsletters over the years, plus my uncle just did that Robin Hood thing. Gave me back my tax return, that is. Best of luck & Stay Safe! – B. M., Queens, NY

I have enjoyed the Advocates for Self Government email newsletter on libertarianism for several months now, and I appreciate the efforts that have been put forth by those in your organization. I am donating toward the debt resolution. I feel that it would be a shame if this issue caused the Advocates to shut down. -- E. R., Christianburg, VA

I hope that all works out well for the organization, because things have got to change in our world before life begins imitating art, i.e., see "V For Vendetta". -- N. N.

I am sad to hear of the situation. The Advocates is one of my favorite organizations.  My thoughts are with you and if there is anyone I can spread the word to, I will. – L. K., Vancouver, WA

This is terrible, but I will see what I can spare to contribute and help out when I get home later. In the meantime, I'll pray for this debt to be covered somehow. We all make mistakes - I guess it was your turn. I appreciate your honesty. -- J. W., Gloucester, MA

I've been reading your newsletter and learning from your website for years. This is my first contribution. I hope you make it through this crisis and continue your good work. -- R. C., New Orleans, LA

I'm saddened to hear about the conference situation. From experience, I know how it can be to have a great event with lackluster attendance. I'm a student and money is tight, but I do want to help out. Hope the Advocates can get out of this bad situation. – R. G., Halethorpe, MD [$25]
