We can fiddle around the edges of our political structures, but I think the arc of history involves the remarkable transformation in the status of human beings, from the increase in longevity to the way the market has allowed us to avoid the awful disasters of famine. Incontestably, we’ve seen a general improvement in the living conditions of the human species, and that is largely a product of initiative, free enterprise, people pursuing private property and following the rule of law.
