This page explains how to request deletion of personal information held by The Advocates for Self-Government, including data associated with Facebook or Google sign-in. You can delete your account yourself or email us about information you want removed.
What Information Can I Ask You to Delete?
You can ask us to delete your Advocates account, the Facebook or Google connection linked to it, or other personal information we hold about you. An account can include your name, email address, and activity on our site. A Facebook sign-in connection can include the Facebook account identifier, a login access token, and a profile image URL provided through Facebook Login. Tell us if your request also concerns quiz activity, a newsletter subscription, a form submission, or a donation so we can review those records too. Some information may need to be retained as explained below.
Delete Your Account
- Sign in to your account.
- Open Account Settings.
- In the Account tab, find the Danger Zone and select Delete Account.
- Confirm the deletion when prompted.
This deletes your Advocates account profile and its linked Facebook or Google sign-in records, including the stored connection token. You will be signed out, and you cannot restore the account. Deleting the account does not automatically remove every other record associated with you or unsubscribe you from newsletters. Use the email method below to ask us to review those records.
If you have an active recurring membership, deleting your account does not cancel it. Before deleting your account, open the Membership tab in Account Settings and select Manage Billing & Subscription to cancel it through the billing portal. If you cannot sign in, include the membership in your email request below.
Request Deletion by Email
Email info@theadvocates.org with the subject “Data Deletion Request” if you cannot sign in, want personal information deleted without closing your account, or want us to review information outside your account. You do not need to sign in to Facebook or Google to send this request.
Say whether you want your whole Advocates account deleted or only specific information. Include the email address associated with your Advocates account or Facebook or Google sign-in, if you know it, and describe any other records you want us to check. Send the message from that email address when possible. If you no longer have access to it, explain that in your message. Do not send your password, Facebook or Google credentials, or access tokens.
What Happens After I Ask?
We will review your request and may ask you to verify that the information belongs to you before deleting it. We will reply to the email address you used with the outcome, including an explanation if we must keep any records. Donation and transaction records may be retained for legal or financial reasons. De-identified or anonymous quiz and analytics records may remain after identifying links are removed. Security and fraud-prevention records may also be retained when necessary.
Facebook and Google Connections
Removing The Advocates from your Facebook or Google connected-app settings stops future access through that provider, but it does not by itself delete information held by The Advocates. Deleting your Advocates account does not delete your Facebook or Google account or information those services hold. If a social sign-in connection is unavailable, email us using the instructions above.
