David Koch
Industrialist/Philanthropist
Late Luminaries & Iconoclasts
I'm basically a libertarian, and I'm a conservative on economic matters, and I'm a social liberal.
A business titan, philanthropist, and political activist, the late David Koch combined industrial success with a deep commitment to individual liberty. As executive vice president of Koch Industries, he helped grow one of the largest privately held companies in the world. In 1980, he ran for vice president on the Libertarian Party ticket, advocating bold positions like eliminating the draft, decriminalizing victimless crimes, and shrinking the federal government. Though he later focused more on philanthropy than politics, he remained a major supporter of organizations that promoted free markets, civil liberties, and educational advancement. Through both enterprise and giving, Koch aimed to support a society where people could pursue their own goals with minimal interference.
