Murray Newton Rothbard (1926–1995) was a towering figure in 20th-century libertarian thought. As an economist, historian, and political theorist, he combined Austrian economics with a radical commitment to individual liberty, laying the groundwork for the modern anarcho-capitalist movement. Rothbard's magnum opus, Man, Economy, and State, expanded upon Ludwig von Mises's work, offering a comprehensive treatise on free-market economics. His writings, including For a New Liberty and Anatomy of the State, continue to influence libertarian scholars and activists worldwide. Rothbard's unwavering belief in voluntary association and his critique of state power remain central to libertarian discourse.
